Matrix, owned by L’Oreal USA, has launched a new co-washing solution for its curly clients—Matrix Biolage Cleansing Conditioner, and it’s available in a formula specifically designed for curly hair. The brand is sold in salons.

Selecting the right hair care formula for textured hair is critical, and Matrix says its new cleansing conditioner is the ideal solution for its curly clients. (You may have heard about Wen by Chaz Dean’s Cleansing Conditioner, by Guthy-Renker – perhaps it’s the start of a new product category in hair care?)

“This low-lather, fast rinsing, soap-free formula contains pomegranate, and was created expressly for the needs of curly hair,” explains Matrix Celebrity Hairstylist George Papanikolas.  “I tell my curly clients that it provides thorough cleansing and lightweight conditioning to enhance curl definition and natural bounce.  What’s more, it’s really healthy. It’s free of sulfates, parabens and silicones, and it’s safe for color-treated hair.   I really see a difference in curl manageability after regular use.”

Wearing hair natural, or curly, seems ot be on trend. The brand says 6,000 women were surveyed, and it was discovered that 92 percent of the consumers have transitioned to wearing their hair in a naturally curly state, rather than straightening or smoothing their locks with chemical products or thermal tools. But, textured hair requires using the right products.

Papanikolas further explains the need for the new product: “One of the hottest topics among curly girls is shampooing. Shampooing too frequently can stress fragile curls, but of course, it’s important to keep hair and scalp fresh and clean.”  Because of this dilemma, Papanikolas explains, many women with curly hair turn to “conditioning washing” or “co-washing” in which hair is cleansed, balanced and refreshed with gentle, shampoo-free formulas that won’t strip delicate strands of their natural oils and nutrients.

The Packaging

Biolage Cleansing Conditioner is in a dark green bottle with colorful labels. It’s an entire product range, and not just for girls with curls – it comes in formulas for Fine, Medium, Coarse and Curly hair.
